About

With my dream job out of reach and friends planning and recounting their own travel adventures, I decided it was a good time for me to escape the grown-up world I had been sinking into over the past 2 years. I quit my job and bought a round the world plane ticket, leaving the UK on the 15th October 2014.

In an attempt to maintain my balance between fitness and fatness whilst away I decided to set up this blog. In theory I will go for a run in each new place I travel to. I’ll record what I see, who I meet and my experiences of running (whilst) away.

You can ‘like’ me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/rosarunningaway for extra snippets and treats from my travels and running.

Hi! Great reads. I was just wondering if you could answer me a few questions about running in Colombia (specifically in Medellin and Bogotá). I am going to be living in one of these cities for a year next year, and am wondering what the running scene is like. I know there are a few parks scattered around, but I am looking on specifics as to where I can go for runs (usually in the 10 mile range). Do you have any more info about running in the Parque Arví? What about any other parks in Medellin? Similarly, apart from the Parque simon bolivar in Bogotá, is there anywhere else? Is it possible/safe to just go for a run on the streets there like back home? Thanks for any insight 🙂

Hey thanks for reading! I ran on the streets in both Bogota and Medellin and it was fine. Just be sensible and cautious as you would be in any city. They can be busy (especially in rush hour), but I’m sure if you are living there you will be able to find some good routes which are quieter. Also I believe there are quite a few parks in different areas of both cities, I was only in each place for a week or so so can’t remember the names! Parque Arvi seems like it has a lot to be explored, I would definitely recommend it. There were lots of trails through the woodland areas so I reckon you could find maps to help you plan routes in a good distance range for you. Also in Bogota it’s quite easy to get a bus out to more rural areas in the mountains nearby which are great for walking, running and cycling. Hope that’s helpful! If you want any more info you could contact me over my Facebook page. Thanks again, Rosa.
